My Graduate journey: Hadis Saleh

I'm originally from Iran and moved to London in 2016. While I was growing up, my older brother was an engineer, and I always admired his work. That was the inspiration that made me want to follow a similar path!

That passion stayed with me, and after graduating in 2022 with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, I began searching for a graduate role in construction.

I found the Sisk Graduate Scheme and applied. I got accepted and the programme includes three rotations, which can be outside your core business unit. I joined from the UK South (London) region and have now moved to UK North (Manchester) for my second rotation.

I actually joined the scheme three months earlier than the rest of the graduate intake, which meant I was able to stay in each rotation for a year instead of the usual nine months. This was something I really valued!

In September last year, there was a graduate induction week where we all got to meet each other and learn more about the roles and business areas we were joining. It was a great icebreaker and really helped build confidence for anyone new to the company.

Back in June 2023, I was lucky enough to join Sisk as a Graduate Site Engineer on one of their key projects at Wembley Park. It was such an incredible experience and it really gave me a strong initial foundation into the construction industry. I certainly learnt so much being on site!

As I continued to learn and grow in my responsibilities, I realised that I wanted to explore the design side of construction, which felt more aligned with my long-term goals. Thanks to the support and advice of my Sisk colleagues, I transitioned into a new role in Design Management. Fast forward to 2025 and I'm now a Design Coordinator on the Etihad Stadium North Stand Extension project, which is a challenge and immensely enjoyable.

My career goal is to become a confident Design Manager, someone who can effectively bridge the gap between the site team and the design team such as interior designers, MEP and architects. I want to be strong in communicating clearly, managing design information efficiently, and ensuring smooth coordination across all parties.

What I appreciate most about Sisk is the way they support young professionals at the beginning of their careers. The company encourages you to explore different areas of construction and helps you find what you're truly passionate about. It’s a place full of opportunity and open doors. For anyone considering an apprenticeship or a graduate role, I believe Sisk is a great environment to grow, learn, and shape your future in construction.
