Sisk is pleased to announce the successful completion of the €10 million upgrade to the Bagenalstown Wastewater Treatment Plant in Co. Carlow, delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann under the supervision of Atkins Réalis engineers.
Completed over a period of 19 months, the project represents a significant investment in the region’s environmental infrastructure and will support long-term social and economic development.
Bagenalstown now benefits from a modernised wastewater treatment facility that has more than doubled the treatment’s capacity from 4,500 to 9,800.
The upgrade ensures the plant can meet the growing needs of the community while improving environmental outcomes.
The scope of works carried out by Sisk included significant enhancements to the plant, including upgrading the plant’s inlet works and storm holding tanks, the installation of a new screened storm overflow chamber and a sludge dewatering building.

These works have substantially improved the plant’s treatment processes, delivering both environmental and operational efficiencies.
This investment by Uisce Éireann will not only facilitate future residential and commercial growth but also improve the quality of discharge to the River Barrow and ensure continued compliance with both national and EU environmental regulations.
Sisk is proud to have partnered with Uisce Éireann in delivering this critical infrastructure, supporting sustainable development in Bagenalstown and the wider Carlow region.
Alan Tully, Project Director, Sisk said: “Our infrastructure team is delighted to have delivered this vital project that will benefit local communities in Bagenalstown and surroundings communities. The improvements will lead to better water quality in the River Barrow and ensure ongoing compliance with both national and EU environmental standards.
