As part of SDG Week Ireland, we were delighted to bring together members of our Sustainability Advisory Council, clients, supply chain partners and other key stakeholders for a valuable discussion on the future of sustainability in the construction sector.
The event provided an opportunity to bring together a diverse range of perspectives from across the industry and explore how we can work collaboratively to address the challenges and opportunities ahead. With sustainability expectations continuing to evolve, the conversation focused on the practical steps needed to turn ambition into meaningful, measurable outcomes across the construction sector.
The event opened with words from our Group Sustainability Director, Sinéad Hickey, and our CEO, Paul Brown, who welcomed attendees and highlighted the importance of collaboration and shared ambition in progressing sustainability across our industry.
Sarah-Jane Davies, our Head of Sustainability, then provided an overview of our refreshed Sustainability Roadmap, outlining our priorities and the actions we are taking to further embed sustainability across our business and projects.
This was followed by an engaging panel discussion, facilitated by Dr Tara Shine, which brought together a range of voices from across the sustainability, construction and infrastructure landscape. The panel included Mary O’Riordan from HaPPE Earth, Matt Voyce from Quintain Limited, Richard Bowen from Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), Donal McCarthy, Chief Operating Officer of Sisk, and Linda O’Sullivan from Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI).
The discussion explored how sustainability expectations are changing across the built environment and what is required to scale meaningful outcomes. The panel also considered the role of collaboration, innovation and accountability in helping organisations move from commitments and targets to tangible action.
As part of the day, members of our Sustainability Advisory Council also had the opportunity to visit one of our sites. The visit provided a practical insight into how sustainability is being embedded across our projects, demonstrating how the ambitions outlined in our Sustainability Roadmap are being translated into action on the ground.
SDG Week Ireland also provided an opportunity to engage our colleagues and encourage conversations around sustainability across the wider business.
To mark the week, we hosted a Sustainability Lunch and Learn in our office, giving colleagues the opportunity to learn more about sustainability within Sisk, our priorities and the role each of us can play in supporting our sustainability ambitions.
We also hosted a fun sustainability quiz over Teams, giving colleagues across the business an opportunity to get involved, test their knowledge and learn more about the Sustainable Development Goals in an engaging and informal way.
These activities provided a valuable opportunity to bring sustainability into everyday conversations across our business and highlight the collective role we can all play in driving positive change.
A key message throughout the week was the importance of collaboration. Achieving meaningful progress on sustainability across the construction sector will require businesses, clients, supply chain partners, industry bodies and other stakeholders to work together, share knowledge and challenge ourselves to continuously improve.
