Innovation
We worked together with Kennedy Wilson to solve construction challenges incorporating techniques such as soil stabilisation, RLD balconies and precast twin walls (‘paint ready’ walls). Due to the project’s proximity to the Luas tram railway, considerable co-ordination with Luas stakeholders was paramount to find solutions when working in such tight quarters and mitigate any potential risks.
Sustainability
High standards were achieved in building in terms of energy efficiency and health and safety. All contractors were given LEED, BREEAM and WELL requirements and had to submit their own environmental plan. A district heating pipe was installed in anticipation of a heating supply from a nearby network and hoarding lights were placed on timers. By communicating regularly with the safety officer on the site, we were able to ensure the highest levels of safety were achieved and the work environment was to the highest levels of health and safety.
A variety of steps were taken to ensure local employment and creating apprenticeship possibilities, as well as the implementation of the ISO14001 approved environmental management system. By utilising sustainability reporting, green roofs, and aluminium fins, which reduce the need for heating and air conditioning, the Coopers Cross Development received a platinum Smart Score certification, which is the global standard for smart buildings.
