Reducing congestion

M6 Junction 10 and the surrounding areas were experiencing significant congestion and delays, and it was identified as one of the main transport issues facing the region in the West Midlands Strategic Transport Plan. The new bridges make the junction larger, significantly reducing delays for road users. It features a four-lane system introduced on the roundabout along with widened slip roads. Additionally, the junction will help facilitate growth at the Black Country Enterprise Zone in Darlaston and improve accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians.

Social Value

Together with Walsall Council and National Highways, and support from the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership, we worked to deliver a challenging scheme in one of the busiest locations on the UK's national network. A great deal of teamwork was required from all stakeholders, including supply chain partners, on the ground to ensure we delivered on-time and on-budget.

Additionally, our team on the M6 Junction 10 project passed the 1 million hours without a lost time injury (LTI). An LTI is an injury sustained on the job by an employee that results in the loss of productive work time.

Community impact

The project was awarded the Education and Inspiration Award at the Institute of Civil Engineering (ICE) awards for our contribution to the community. We delivered £19 million of social and economic value to the West Midlands region and continue to build and inspire a positive lasting legacy in education. Some of the key contributions included:

Collections for local charities

Christmas donations were made to ‘Socks and Chocs Charity’ supporting the homeless, ‘Black Country Women’s Aid’ and ‘Walsall’s Acorns’ Children’s Hospice (donating toys), as well as ‘Midland Langar Seva Society’ who manage outdoor soup kitchens locally. Additionally, a foodbank collection point was set-up in the main site office canteen with donations being sent to a local charity.
