Campus 1 was constructed in three phases over a six year period, following an initial Preconstruction Services Agreement of six months. The original building, called DB3, was, and still is, this client’s flagship project. This first phase incorporated all the infrastructure required for the full campus including construction of the utility 110kV substation and associated switch rooms. DB3 is a two-storey data centre with plant floors above. The first floor contains the five Colocation Centres (Colos) – large server rooms and an electrical load of 16MW for the IT installation. Each Colo was 1,300m2
The second phase, referred to as DB4, was a single storey building housing three Colos and their related electrical and telecoms rooms. There was a small admin building also included. Each Colo is approx. 1,700m². The building provided 13 MW of power for the IT installation. The third phase, referred to as DB5 was a single storey building housing four Colos and their related electrical and telecoms rooms. The building provided 18 MW of power. Each building’s internal and external spaces and in particular the perimeter have extensive security measures implemented.
Our extensive Post Occupancy Evaluation (which began during construction rather than wait until completion of the first phase) demonstrated that designs could be simplified and value engineered to give a better solution using single storey buildings.
