Built on the Great Western Hospital site, expanded Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s radiotherapy service, formerly provided solely from the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.

Experience Counts

At the peak of construction we had 60 operatives on site and the project was completed in 2022. The radiotherapy centre boasts two linear accelerators which are mostly used for external beam radiotherapy. We utilised our experience of constructing linear accelerator bunkers for radiotherapy treatment at Swindon.

Bunker Structure

In constructing the bunkers, sacrificial concrete floors were completed and a total, 1,716 cubic metres of concrete were poured. In non-construction terms, the volume equates to about two-thirds of an Olympic-sized swimming pool and the weight is around 320 double-decker buses!

Funding

Oxford University Hospitals provided a combined £18.4m, with £2.9m donated by local people.
