Sinéad Hickey, Group Sustainability Director, Sisk reflects upon the delivery of our fourth sustainability report

We recently published our fourth sustainability report – an important milestone for us at Sisk – it is the halfway point in our 2030 Sustainability Roadmap, Building today, Caring for tomorrow, and globally, we are also over halfway towards the goals set out in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

What makes me especially proud of this report is that it builds not only on the progress we have made across a range of areas, but also on the collective contribution from across the entire business and our wider value chain. It genuinely reflects the unified effort, innovative spirit and determination that Sisk employees and our partners bring to work every day. The expertise, the passion and commitment showcased throughout our 2024 report are just a sample of the wide range of activity that has taken place.

This year, we made significant progress across our sustainability priorities. Some of the key highlights include:

  • Achieving a CDP ‘A’ score for climate reporting, placing us in the top 1% of responding companies globally, a recognition of our commitment to transparency and climate leadership.
  • Reducing our carbon intensity by 52% since 2019, a journey that demands continuous oversight, engagement and focus.
  • Planting over 1.17 million trees since 2021, supporting biodiversity and long-term environmental resilience.
  • Achieving zero plastic to landfill certification at our Vantage project, a major step forward in our circular economy efforts that can be adopted by any organisation in our industry.
  • Delivering a low-carbon demonstrator project at Wembley Park, where we successfully tested Ecocem’s ACT concrete technology in a structural application—achieving over 70% carbon savings compared to traditional concrete.

As we look ahead in a challenging global environment, we remain fully focused on our commitments to sustainability, living our values of Care, Integrity and Excellence – while ensuring we don’t become complacent and that we continue to work hard to further embed sustainable and responsible practices into all we do.

Our Double Materiality Assessment, aligned with the most recent CSRD guidelines, is nearing completion and will inform the review of our sustainability targets, ensuring we stay on course to deliver long-term value.

Sustainability remains at the heart of our business. Together, businesses have the power to be a force for good—driving progress on climate action, biodiversity, mental health, inclusion, and skills development, to name a few. The challenges are significant, but so is our capacity to lead lasting, positive change. The future we strive for is one that is financially resilient, environmentally responsible, and socially inclusive. We must remain focused and determined to be at the heart of change.
